“Standardizing the framework of the Thesis Guide” is the goal of the Faculty of Business Administration in the lecturer training
HCMC, Saturday, 19th August 2023 – at 8:45 A.M, the Board of Deans of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), Heads of Department, and all the FBA lecturers held a lecturer training at Hall E3.02. The training aimed to unify the orientation, content, and structure according to the academic-oriented, applied-oriented, and thesis projects for FBA students. Besides, the training created consensus and unity between lecturers and students in the process of implementing the graduation thesis.
The training session gave the lecturers an overview of what a good thesis must meet, thereby more comprehensively orienting students in the guidance process.
Speaking at the training , Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, shared: “Lecturer is not only a teacher but also a mentor, a consultant, and a guide for students to understand clearly and complete their thesis. Therefore, knowing the structure according to the standardized framework will make it easier for lecturers to guide their students.” Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long also emphasized that the most important goal for students when implementing the thesis is not whether academic-oriented or applied-oriented, not grades, not analytical results, adequate or insufficient data, but that students must understand how to do a thesis and what lessons can be learned from it.
Figure 1: Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long – Vide Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration giving the presentation
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hien, Head of the Department of Fundamentals, further shared that while the research thesis has five chapters, the applied thesis has three chapters, and the structure can be changed to befit the needs of different subjects and topics. The research scope of the academic-oriented is large corporations or similar businesses in a particular space, unlike applied-oriented, which only analyzes a specific enterprise. In terms of research methods, there are also certain differences. And many issues must be noted in the instruction process, therefore lecturers must understand carefully to avoid mistakes.
Figure 2: Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hien, Head of Department of Fundamentals presenting the research structure
“The thesis can also be implemented in group topics or project topics, from 2-4 students per group depending on academic-oriented or applied-oriented”, Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh Truong – Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, affirmed at the training. With the applied thesis, student groups must implement at a large enterprise scale, usually a joint stock/corporation; or start-up project.

The lecturers actively listened, asked questions, and provided suggestions to the Board of Deans of the Faculty of Business Administration to finalize the content and support students in completing the thesis and getting the best results.
